  • 1.  Use phone extension for announcement only prompt

    I would like to setup an extension for an announcement only prompt.  We used this in our old system so that employees could dial in during a snow storm to see if the office is opened or closed on that day.

    Here is the user experience:
    1. User dials our main number from their home or mobile phone
    2. User dials extension 1000
    3. System plays prompt indicating status of office repeatedly until user hangs up

    From the admins end setting up the call looks like this:
    1. Admin gets up early and determines if office will close
    2. Admin dials into main number from home or mobile phone
    3. Admin dials extension 1000 then hits * to enter admin mode
    4. Admin changes recording based on status of office

    Tech support tells me there is nothing like this available with Purecloud.

    Has anyone done something similar?  I'm open to any method of doing this.  The key is that the 'Admin' is not an IT person.  It might be an HR person who needs to have a simple way to change the announcement prompt.

    The user part looks to me as a simple IVR call flow, which should be easy to build in the Architect. The admin part would be also easy if the admins could log into PureCLoud and activate the prompt/different routing from there. They could use emergency routing for example. It's just a switch button so, you don't need to be an IT guru to activate it:
    Switch is OFF -> Regular routing -> Call flow with open office prompt
    Switch is ON -> Emergency routing -> Call flow with office closed prompt

    If you insist on an IVR call flow for admins, it is still doable. You just need to build another IVR and call a custom Data action from the flow to change the prompt/routing. The action can also be used to activate the Emergency routing.
