    Hi,

My favorite invention is the microscope!

With the ability to zoom in and see what's invisible to the naked eye, from cells to bacteria, it opened the door to modern medicine, diagnostics, and countless scientific breakthroughs.

    The camera.
It's the one invention that changed how we remember. Before cameras, moments just passed. You could tell stories or paint pictures, but the details faded. The camera let us hold on to time - faces, places, laughter, history - all caught in a single frame.

It connects generations, too. You can see where you came from just by opening an old album. It reminds us what mattered, what we survived, and who we loved. It's proof that we were here, and that our lives meant something.

The world's better for it because cameras don't just capture images, they capture truth, emotion, and connection. A picture can move someone to tears or spark change. Sometimes it just makes you smile. Either way, it keeps us human.

    Hi,

My favorite global invention is the electric shower, created by the Brazilian inventor Francisco Canhos Navarro.

It made hot showers accessible and affordable, improving comfort and quality of life for millions of people around the world.

I would say one of my favorites would be the gramophone leading to the record player. In a world of digital music at our fingertips all the time, it's nice and cozy to settle in with a record player and a few vinyls and relax. The crackle is the perfect white noise to unwind to after a long day. I know its a bit superfluous and isn't life-saving like medical innovations, but enjoying music with others or by yourself outside of a live performance was greatly advanced by the gramophone/ record player and is something I'm grateful for!

The integrated circuit. Although the transistor was a good first step, the integrated circuit took it to the next level by packaging up a bunch of transistors and giving them a specific job. The continued evolution of the integrated circuit (smaller, cheaper, faster, more powerful, repeat ...) has in some way contributed to basically everything we have today. Even if you can think of something that doesn't have an IC in it, you can be pretty sure lots of them were used in some way to design, manufacture, sell, and distribute it.

My favorite invention is the smartphone.

For me, it's one of the most important inventions of all time. It revolutionized the way we communicate, work and access information.

It's amazing to think we carry a device so powerful in our pockets that replaces so many things and is capable of connecting us with the whole world in seconds.

Without a doubt, the smartphone has transformed society in ways that would be impossible to imagine.

My favorite invention is the internet, whilst the internet has its bad sides it really opened up the world to be a truly global market place. But its the origin story that shows why investing money in the sciences is important.

Whilst CERN was looking at the atomic nucleus and then particle physics it was this research that led to them creating a solution to facilitate inofrmation among these scientists. This led to Tim Berners-Lee inventing the world wide web. Medical imaging technices such at PET scans and technologies for cancer therapy also came from tools they were making for the experiments. They even developed the first versions of Touch Screen technolgogy to help control its accelerators.

Investing in science is fundamental to us, whilst we may not value the core goal of the research and understand its value, the resulting technolgoeis that are developed to help them achieve the research has been pivtol to us in more ways than anyone could imagine.

    Simply: Modern Aviation / Flight

We have the ability to hop on a plane and within a matter of hours explore the wonders that the world has to offer with relative convenience.

I'm sure a lot of us take this for granted!

    Hi

    My favorite invention is medicine.

I don't know if it truly counts as an invention, but I believe it allowed humans to live longer and establish bonds of friendship and society.
The beginnings of its application demonstrate observation, experimentation, and perhaps oral records of how humans protected themselves.

The first radio or wireless communication. It revolutionized communications by instantaneously providing information wirelessly through electromagnetic waves. It's one of the most ambitious way to harness electricity. Applications we can't live without now are WiFi, TV, Satellite/GPS, BT, IoT, Mobile Comms, etc.

I think...the harp. At the British Museum I saw one from ancient Ur. From David calming Saul up through my daughters playing at home, I find harp to be a place of peace and calm.

    Hi,

What a great question! My favorite global invention is coffee. It may not be a gadget or machine, but discovering how to roast, grind, and brew those magical beans changed the course of human history. Coffee fuels economy, innovation, creativity, and connection. It's the unofficial engine behind every great idea (and every late-night deadline). Without coffee, I'm convinced half of humanity's progress would've been postponed until after a nap. ☕️

My favorite global invention is the phone, but not for sending text messages.  Voice calls are such an engaging way to communicate with anyone in the world.  Some days I can't believe I can be walking on the beach, while talking to a friend hiking in the Swiss alps.  Amazing!

My favorite invention is the Camera,

This, because this invention has allowed us to capture and see unforgettable and importante moments (historical, personal, among others). This allow us to see an image, and then, imagine those events and bring them to the real life.

    Hi!

My favorite invention is the space rocket.

It fascinates me because it allows us to explore space, traveling to places that previously seemed impossible to reach. The rocket represents humanity's courage, creativity, and ambition to go beyond Earth. Each launch is a step towards discovering new worlds, studying distant planets, and expanding our knowledge of the universe. For all these reasons, the space rocket is, for me, one of the most incredible inventions in history.

    Hi all,

My favorite invention is the ship!

Although I am terrified of the ocean-those dark and unpredictable depths-the invention of ships deeply fascinates me. It's as if we were exploring the very space of our planet, gliding across a blue void that holds ancient secrets, connecting continents and distant dreams.

    Smartphone

I really liked when the phone became smart as it really became a great asset to improve the day to day life. Keep in touch with everyone and everything. You have that one thing in your pocket and you feel empowered. If we ask chatGPT to prepare an exhaustive list of things it does for us, i think the compilation would take a  really long time :)

The selfie toaster: It's an actual invention that lets you print your own face on toast. You upload a photo, and the toaster customizes the heating plate to burn your selfie image into the bread. Who does not want one now that you know it exists????

For me, the best invention has been the smartphone. It has made our lives easier and has allowed news or communication between people on opposite sides of the world to be easy. Unfortunately, the new generations have developed a great dependence on them, to the point that they seem like zombies glued to a smartphone.

The Printing Press - Johannes Gutenberg - 15th century!

We can refer to this as the first "Share" button-the ability to share knowledge on a large scale.

Books were rare and copied by hand. Not to mention, it was also expensive and inaccessible to most of the world. Ideas traveled slowly and were often only shared with the privileged. Scientific discoveries, philosophical concepts, and educational materials could be mass-produced and shared.

It truly laid the foundation for our modern world, including today's AI. The moment knowledge became reproducible, it provided the world with a universal means of learning, recording, and improving. The world is undeniably better for it.
