    is there a way to add the total contacts in a campaign and the amount of contacts made to a dashboard?  or just the % complete?

    Not in the native Performance Dashboards.  The Campaign detail shows that as well if you click on the suitcase icon in the campaign list, you will get detailed information.  You can create your own dashboard using the Notifications API or the Analytics API as well.  Let me know if you need information about that.
