  • 1.  Guides having a hard time with inputs for data actions

I am performing a very simple request input from a customer/caller and the variable in the AI Guide formats the input however it likes.

    Example :

Bot Agent:Please tell me your member records number.

    Caller a1b2c45678

Bot inserts variable into Data Action. field in CRM is set to a1b2c45678.

    Data Action fails...

Look at the execution history and the variable is set to various formats, examples (a1,b2c,45678), or (a 1 b 2, c 456 7)

Since I am just setting the variable as a string it takes what the AI collects. How do I reformat or control the formatting in the AI Guide?  Can I use expressions in the AI Guide itself? Do I need to exit the guide, perform an update data, and then go into another guide after?  Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

    Hello Steve,

I think you should be able to use a Data Action to remove spaces and commas from the caller input. You'll want to use regex to find and remove the commas and spaces from the input variable.

I wonder if you could somehow include that in the Guide instructions, something like "strip any spaces or commas from member records number".

Honestly, I didn't it could be that easy, but it might be worth trying. I'll see what I can do.

Let us know how you get on.

But yes think of it like if you had to instruct a frontline staff member who is new to the process. If you don't tell them the right format they need to enter it in to a form, they are going to do whatever. If you give them clear instructions, remove all the spaces, ensure it is all lower case, remove any non alphanumeric characters etc. Then it is clear what the input should look like. LLMs are generally same, if you give them clear instructions they perform the task much better.

Though for something more deterministic like this a Virtual Agent without the Guide is probably sufficient.

I'm in total amazement. I asked the guide to strip out any non-alphanumeric characters and spaces and make one continuous string. Then it worked each time. I took it a step further and I asked the guide to input the transformed variable into a new variable and then ran that in the data action in the guide. I did this so I could see what the output would be from the guide and you can see in the execution history that the user input was A 1 B 2C45678 but the output variable from the guide back to the flow as a1b2c45678. Problem solved by asking the ai guide to do it for me. I'm highly impressed.
