New UI - Menu or search?

  • 1.  New UI - Menu or search?

    Posted 21 days ago

Now that we have all had time to get used to the new UI - I am curious how many people use the menu to find the section that they want - or simply just use the search?

For me - it's invariably search - unless it's for a related section in the same menu - when i will use the menu!

    I'm on the same boat!

I will always go with the search first, and then depending on which menu I'm currently at, I might use the menus for easy access to another menu that in on the same subject/section.

Great change to be honest. On the first couple of days it was a little weird getting used to it, but I believe it has been a great change.

For me it's mostly search as well, especially when jumping between different areas in Genesys Cloud CX. The new UI is great and definitely cleaner, but I think having a "favorites" or pinned sections capability would make navigation even faster.

    Hi Richard,

I'd say I'm the same as you. I used search in the old UI because the list became bigger and the layout could change dependent upon permissions. For some items I will go through the menu such as Activity and Analytics Workspace but most often it's search especially to bring up Architect. Some of my colleagues are learning the menu structure to create some muscle memory.

I'm waiting for bookmarks as I think that will be very useful for the majority of users. Whether that will work for those of us that access almost very feature, time will tell.

    Yes, clearly the same here.
Search or if I don't know the name of the page, i'm looking for another on the same 'section' and switch with menu

I'm a big searcher I'm afraid. Much easier to navigate around!

I use search if I do not know where to find the option, I navigate if I always use the option like Analytics Workspace.

Agree, having a "favorites" or pinned sections would be great so I do not have navigate to Analytics every time I change screen.

I concur with the collective here--search first, and (like @Marcello Jabur) primarily use the menu to hit a post-search submenu quicker. There are times where using the menu works better than typing though, but only for those top-level menus. Well, that and I will occasionally challenge my brain/torture myself and use the menu merely to see if I can remember where something is buried 😆

@Phaneendra Avatapalli@Richard Robinson / @Vincent Sabolboro - If you haven't already done so, please vote for/subscribe to this idea to pin a menu item at the top of the menu page.

Cheers @Brian Jones added in my vote..
Good to say it is already planned for upcoming development.

Features like these are so important for visually impaired users.

    Hi Richard,

I use a mix of both the menu and the search bar.  Typically if I know where I want to go, I'll search, where as if I'm in a work flow of creating schedules/work plans etc, ill click through the menu.  So in terms of feedback, I do like how the categories flow together when working on things, far superior to the giant wall of links in the old version.

One feedback I have though would be if there's a way to "Favourite" links in the menu.  For example, a Team Leader might commonly access "Schedules" and "Analytic Workspace", rather than going into the Analytics or Workforce Management Category to navigate to them, they could open the Menu select favourites and navigate that way?

I know it's probably easier to just type in search, but some people when it comes to technology, like to go the simple way by clicking things.

**Edit: I see everyone else mentioned a Favourites suggestion too 😅 I've also voted on that idea.

    It's the same for me

Search first or if I don't know the name of the page, i'm looking for another on the same 'tab' and switch with menu.
And I promote Search for all end-users anytime !
