Yeah, we are a newer call center so that made it easier than having a long-established bidding process to overcome. I've worked at other centers that made the change however, after proving tenure did not equate to performance. It was a little rough initially, but we pulled through as we had leadership buy-in. Also the agents hated the process, the waiting, the errors...so while it had its drawbacks (some very vocal), it had it benefits to the agent too.
When we had bidding, the agents entered requests in Gen but with no time-off limits or approval, Gen just held and timestamped the request. WFM went through and approved based on tenure, or whatever metric. We accepted bids for two weeks. After that was complete and all approvals made, we opened it to first come first serve. Gen still held all of the requests, but WFM manually approved and declined and tracking was done in Excel. We did this quarterly, and it was a nightmare. We probably saved 8 hours a week by using the automation.
