Genesys is the SMS broker (at least indirectly) for SMS in Genesys Cloud. They will charge you around $2.00 to obtain a long code number and $3750 or so for a short code. Then there is either a $1.00/month for long code and something like $3750/quarter for short code. Check out the resource center for pricing and regionalized support.
Also, every text in or out will incure costs listed in the resource center as you have found.
Yes, you can purchase 800, mobile, or DID SMS numbers and you can SMS-enable GCV numbers:

Using an 3rd-party SMS vendor is coming. I think Twilio is one of the first they will bring out.

Subject: Total cost of implementing SMS
Hi,
I am curious if I understand the total cost of SMS correctly.
- If we purchase an SMS number via Genesys, are there any additional costs that we pay to the carrier (such as Telus/Bell/etc.) when sending and receiving texts?
- Based on the Genesys site, there would be a monthly fee for the number (About $1.25 CAN) as well as a $0.01 cost per text. Is that it or would there be additional fees to the carrier like Telus/Bell?etc.? I have been hearing costs of about $.20 per text so doing this via Genesys appears much cheaper.
Two other questions I had were:
- Can we purchase one toll-free number that can be used for phone calls and SMS?
- Can we interrupt and redirect several phone numbers outside of Genesys (say a Telus number) to the Genesys number?
Thanks for your help.
