    Can Azure only provision users to Genesys public groups or can it add users outside of a group?

    Hi Edward

    Azure (via SCIM provisioning) can only provision users into Genesys Cloud Groups. It does not support assigning users individually outside of a group through the provisioning configuration.

    So if you want users to be added to a Public Group in Genesys Cloud, that group must be mapped in Azure.

    Also, keep in mind that group names are case sensitive, so the name in Azure must match the exact of the group name in Genesys Cloud for the mapping to work correctly.

    Hi Edward, depending on what you're asking here, users can be provisioning into Genesys Cloud using SCIM without necessarily also adding them to a group.  In order for a user to be assigned to a group in Genesys Cloud via SCIM, the user has to be created first.  If you see the audit log for a user provisioned via SCIM you'll see a number of steps and actions it does in sequence around setting (non-used) password, updating group/role assignments.

    In some cases, user roles are assigned to the group in Genesys Cloud the user is being provisioned into via SCIM.  In other cases roles are assigned directly to the user via the SCIM process.

    If the user is provisioned into Genesys Cloud without also having SCIM either put them into a group or assigning roles to the user, they'll end up with only the employee role.

    I'm interested, is it how to do provisioning without it being by group!

    To clarify both points: SCIM can provision users into Genesys Cloud even without assigning them to a group-the user object is created first. However, group membership via SCIM does require group mapping, so Azure cannot add users to Genesys Cloud groups unless those groups are explicitly mapped.

    Roles can be applied either via the mapped group or directly to the user through SCIM attributes. If neither groups nor roles are assigned, the user will default to the Employee role only.
