  • 1.  Public Folders on exchange

Hi All - we are a brand new client with MIC 2.4. We are trying to set up our exchange server to allow messages to be sent to a public folder. This is what is happening: We set up a public folder for a department so that voicemail left would be sent to a generic account and not to someone's personal email account. And once done, everything appeared to be working correctly. We called and left a voice message and it was delivered without an issue to the public folder and we were able to listen to it as well. But when we picked up the phone and connected to MIC through the TUI, we got a message saying that your mailbox can not be accessed. If you look at the MIC sysadmin, it shows you have logged in but you can't access anything in your box or make any changes. Is anyone out there using public folders in this way. If you need a better description please feel free to contact me directly. Thanks in advance for any help. Unfortunately for this case, the tools that are available in the IC platform to open mail folders do not currently support opening Public folders. Could you possibly create a generic user mailbox to send the messages to, rather than a public folder? That mailbox could forward copies to the Public folder with an Inbox Rule. The downside to this possible workaround is that the two message stores will not be in sync. So, if you were to listen to a message through the TUI, then visit the Public folder from your desktop, that message would still be a new, unread message. Perhaps some more detail on how your users interact with the voicemails would help find a solution. Do they use the TUI only, TUI mostly, PC mostly, etc...? Thanks!

We have generic exchange accounts for departments. Then, we make the users who need to access the department accounts delegates so that they can see the department account in their own Outlook profile. The end result is that the user can see their "own" mailbox along with seeing the "shared" mailbox. Here is the Microsoft kb article that gives the how to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291626 Mark Spencer Indiana University maespenc@indiana.edu 812-855-3098
