We recently detected cases where Messenger is not honoring WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines for minimum color contrast (4.5:1). Accessibility is a top priority for us, we are going to fix this in couple of weeks. Messenger includes logic to automatically determine best text color (white or black) based on selected background color, in order to match AA criteria around color contrast.

All - along with the color-contrast improvements required to fully meet WCAG AA compliance, we are planning to add another improvement, to further improve color-contrast when user is navigating in Messenger UI via keyboard tabbing: based on customer feedback we detected that our native focus selector was not meeting the required color-contrast ratio. So we are planning to add a more distinctive border to ensure proper WCAG support. See screenshots below, note that this improvement will be visible only while tabbing via keyboard, it does not apply with mouse-hover. This improvement will be bundled in the same upcoming release by end of October.

Latest update: we are getting closer to release, now planned on November 8th, as we are finalizing necessary updates to Messenger VPAT documents.
