It's been over a year since I looked but as far as I recall:

That Target Email Address can come from any variable, meaning yes if you wanted to pull it from a CRM you'd use a data action based on something from the call. There are some built-in variables including the convID so you could potentially pull something else out from that interaction to then use in your data action if required.

I thought I read somewhere that in the Survey Invite Flow you could insert an email address from a CRM or some other resource other than relying on an email in the External Contacts. I am just confirming if this is possible or must the Email Address be pulled from External Contacts. If so is a Data Action required? Thanks.
