  • 1.  Web client not popping on incoming call

    We recently started using the web client with Windows 7 and IE9. Our users are experiencing the following issues. 1. The web client is not popping up when a call comes in. This is not happening to all users. We have turned off the pop up blocker in IE9 and that has had no effect. 2. No ring from the computer with incoming calls. This also is not happening to everyone. All users were recently upgraded to Windows 7 and have the identical configuration. I have checked the sound configuration in windows 7 and all other sounds play. Any ideas.

    Hi, boblod. #1 is likely due to a browser limitation that cannot be overcome by application developers. Modern versions of many browsers do not allow content to raise a window to the foreground. In IE, the window should flash in the taskbar when the app asks to be brought to the foreground, though. Are you at least seeing that happen in cases where the pop doesn't work? #2 is a known issue. It appears to be an intermittent problem related to Flash player, which is used to play the sounds. 4.0 SU4 includes changes to use HTML5 audio where possible, which should help things in IE9, IE10, and other modern browsers (e.g. recent Firefox, Chrome, or Safari) because it will avoid Flash player altogether.

    Sometimes the web client is flashing on the taskbar but not always. Most of the users are now hearing sound but not all of them. Would updating the flashplayer have any effect.

    We were able to see the sound problem internally on even the latest version of Flash player, so I don't think upgrading Flash will help. Are you currently running version 4.0 SU3 of the web client? We are working on a patch for 4.0 SU3 that should help alleviate the sound issues in IE9+ and all other browsers. The patch updates the sound component to use HTML5 audio where available instead of Flash (the only supported browser that doesn't have HTML5 audio is IE8). I would recommend talking to your support contact about that if you want the issue addressed now as opposed to waiting for SU4.
