  • 1.  Using Azure AD for Directory lookups

Is it possible to use in addition to, or in place of, the Genesys Directory -- use Azure AD as a lookup directory when searching for contacts?

Not for the Internal Director - that is strictly based on users in the system.  You could use SCIM with Azure/AD to provision all the AD users with forward numbers and treat it like a rolodex for your company.  There is an idea of using Azure/AD for External Contacts: AD Sync for External Contact import | Genesys Cloud Ideas Portal (aha.io)

Thanks, the approach of syncing a group from Azure AD doesn't look like it will work, as it appears that Genesys groups have a limit of 3000 members, not to mention that creating 28k users in Genesys doesn't seem like the best way to do this. There is a Teams integration that might be a path to similar information. I guess another approach would be some sort of click to dial for the WebRTC phone. Look up a phone number in a browser and click to call it using the WebRTC?

SCIM is really the only real way to provision users from an outside source to Genesys Cloud.  The only other possible way would be through the API with something like Postman that can cycle through a list you have, which would be super slow and not really reliable if you ask me.  Teams integration requires that the users be in the system first using SCIM, so same starting point there.

    Mark,

The Teams integration is utilizing the SCIM integration under the covers to get a representation of the user inside of Genesys Cloud.  Please note that the group membership limit is just that, a limit on the number of members you can put into a single group.  If you were to subdivide the directory into different groups, or simply not sync group membership.

An alternative approach would be to leverage a client app that could be exposed within Genesys Cloud, which could present the Azure Directory within a frame inside GC and allow you to process your click to dials.
